Along with Italian, some other languages are also spoken in Italy as secondary languages used as a medium of communication.  Like, Friulian is a secondary language that is spoken by almost 600,000 people in Italy and same as Friulian other languages such as Ladin, Slovene, and German is spoken as well in some parts of Italy.

Italian spread across the country after the emigration in the late 19th and 20th century with the help of television which at the time was available in every house.
