Languages in Portugal

Languages in Portugal refer to the languages that are spoken by the people living in the state. There are several languages in Portugal that are used frequently. Portuguese is one of the Portugal official languages and is spoken by the majority of the people. National language in Portugal according to the modern languages compromises of two dialects that are southern dialect and central dialect. They are the main dialects of Portugal national languages of the people living in the capital city Lisbon.

The southern dialect of languages in Portugal includes the use of

• Azores,
• Alentejo,
• Algarve.

The northern dialects are main spoken languages in Portugal specifically in Porto which is the second largest city of Portugal. These are

• Alto-Minhoto,
• Nortenho,
• Transmotano.

Languages in Portugal also include the sign languages that is specially designed for the ones who are not able to speak or are disabled. 

Portugal Official Languages

Other than this, Mirandese language is also one of the languages in Portugal which is a dialect of Astur Leonese and is mainly spoken by the people living in northeastern Portugal. This particular language was also considered an official minority language in 1999 for the country. Minderico is also another spoken language in the state which is now not in use but was one of the main languages of the country. English is also one of the languages in Portugal which can be understood as well as spoken by the people. It makes the communication between locals and visitors quite easier.
