Colombia official name is Republic of Colombia (Republica de Colombia). Colombia latest Presidential elections were held on May 27, 2018, Ivan Duque has chosen to be its next conservative apprentice President. The Colombian Liberal Party (Partido Liberal Colombiano; PLC) and Conservative Party (Partido Conservative Colombiano; PCC) are two oldest surviving political parties of Colombia. The Liberal and the Conservative parties were founded in 1848 and 1849 shortly after its independence. For many years only these two political parties were allowed to participate in the national Colombia Government. The history of slavery in Colombia started by the Spanish in the 1500’s. Over 1 million Africans were brought by Spain in Colombia to be enslaved. Slavery was abolished in the country on May 21, 1851, and all slaves were ordered to be free.
