The Honduras official language is Spanish which is spoken by the majority of the people living in the country. Spanish was introduced in Honduras due to the colonial rules of Spanish people. Almost 80 percent of the population speaks Spanish which also makes it the national language in Honduras. 

Other Languages in Honduras

Apart from Spanish, some other languages in Honduras are Lencan which is rarely used now. Ch’orti language was once a common language used by a considerable number of groups living in Honduras, but due to the introduction of Spanish, many ethnic groups have adopted the Spanish language as their primary language in Honduras.

Spanish is taught in schools along with English as Spanish is used in personal matters such as politics while English is more of a foreign language. Arabic, on the other hand, is very famous among the people living in Honduras as nearly 42,000 people living in the country speak Arabic. Similarly, Armenian is also used as a secondary language in Honduras, spoken by almost 50 percent of the population along with Turkish. All of these foreign languages are a result of different relations formed between the residents of Honduras with the world.
