History of Malta Currency

The new currency EURO joined and referred to as the latest currency name of Malta in January 2008 and since then till today, Malta currency has remained the same. Banknotes for new Malta currency were issued by the Malta government and later on by Central bank in 1972. The notes were written in Maltese from the front and on the back side, English was written in pounds. Malt perfectly adopted the decimal system in 1972 naming lira on banknotes. Malta final agreed on taking the Euro as its currency when it was successfully added in the European Union in 2008.
