Sri Lanka government is based on the semi-presidential system. A president is elected every five years by an election system in which voting system is used, President of the country is the head of the state and governs the parliament system on which the Sri Lanka government is based upon. The Parliament system consists of three branches; the legislative branch which is the lawmaking body and deals with the lawmaking process, secondly we have the Judiciary branch which is solely responsible for maintaining justice among people.

The third and the most important branch of the parliamentary system is the Executive branch which consists of the cabinet of ministers. For every sector, there is a minister and is responsible for enforcing the laws associated with that sector. The President is also the commander in chief in the times of war.
