The Barbados International Airport lies 12.9 km from the center of the capital city Bridgetown and has recently been upgraded and expanded by the government to accommodate more passengers. The Barbados International Airport has two terminal buildings designed to give an impression of one continuous structure. The recently added new terminal currently has 22 gates which together with the old departure terminal provided commendable services to its customers. The airport has a single two-mile asphalt paved runway where the planes take off and land in an easterly direction due to the wind direction. The airport also provides facilities like duty-free shops and a green waiting area in the middle.
