Bhutan Custom Rules

Freely Imported products as per Bhutan Customs Rules - 2 packets of cigarette (these are subjected to 100% of Customs duty plus 100% of sales tax), not more than 2 bottles of alcoholic spirits, of less than 1 litre or less, a perfume bottle less than 2 ounces, 50 grams gold, 1 kg silver, 10 pieces of clothes at the most irrespective of whether they’re stitched or unstitched. Household and personal products like a bed, electronic items, etc. shouldn’t be more than 1 item each as per Bhutan Customs Rules. Photographic equipment like video cameras can be imported freely; any currency can be introduced freely to the country, up to the equivalent of 10000$ USD.

Guns, explosives, and Ammunition. Illegal drugs, knives, and other deadly weapons, Plant and Plant products, Meat and meat products, pets, animals, religious and cultural Artifacts, hazardous materials, pornographic materials and other goods that are prohibited by any, law, international conventions to which Bhutan is a signature

Bhutan Customs Rules

These are the restrictions put by the Bhutanese government mentioned in Bhutan Customs Rules. 

  • All arms and Ammunition are prohibited from entering the country without prior permission from the Royal Bhutan Army. 

  • All plant and plant materials require permission to enter the country from the Ministry of Agriculture.
  • Animals and animal products need approval from the Ministry of Agriculture, before entering Bhutan. Also, any cat, dog or any pet need to have travel health clearance certificate proving they don’t have any infection or another contaminated disease.  
  • Wireless and remote sensing telecommunication equipment require permission from the Ministry of Communication.
