This absolute monarchy was introduced in the constitution of 1959.
Five Councils of Brunei Government
The Sultan has five councils for his assistance. These five councils are Privy council, religious council, the council of cabinet ministers, the legislative council and the council of succession. The legislative branch of Brunei government consists of up to 39 members. The judicial branch of the Brunei government consists of two systems. One consists of the high court, supreme court, and the appointed judges. The second one consists of Sharia courts. Judicial branch with a supreme court is headed by Chief justice.
Political Parties of Brunei
Talking about the political parties involved in the Brunei government, there are only three parties at present. Brunei national solidarity part, Brunei people’s awareness party, and National development party. Previously there are only two political parties involved in Brunei government namely Brunei national democratic party and Brunei people’s party. However, no elections held in the country since 1962.
