Government of Cameroon
Cameroon government is a unitary form of government, which states that the president of the Republic of Cameroon is both the head of state and the head of government. The president of Cameroon government is elected by a majority of the population for a period of 7 years. He now has the power to select the prime minister. Moreover, veto powers also reside with the head of the state. Currently, the acting president of Cameroon government is Paul Biya and the prime minister is Philemon Yang.
History of Cameroon Government
The constitution running Cameroon government was approved in the year 1972, where it stated that there should be a strong central Cameroon government. Furthermore, the constitution states that the Cameroon government should protect the rights of citizens, it also includes how the government should be run. There is also a choice to amend the constitution in case of need.
Cameroon Government Branches
Cameroon government has three main branches, namely, the executive branch, legislative branch and judiciary branch. The executive branch of Cameroon government has the president as a head of state. The legislative branch of Cameroon government is responsible for creating laws by which to run the country and implementing them. The legislative members of Cameroon government are elected for a period of 5 years. On the other hand, the judiciary branch is irrespective of any time limit to be in power. The current political scenario of Cameroon government is quite unstable and uncertain with many internal governmental weaknesses that over-powers the Cameroon government’s ability to run the country smoothly.
