General info about Ghana
Ghana is officially the Republic of Ghana, which is a country situated along the Gulf of Guinea and Atlantic Ocean, in the region of West Africa. Ghana is spanning a land mass of 238,535 km2 (92,099 square mi), Ghana has a border of the Ivory Coast in the west, Burkina Faso in the north area, Togo to be in the East and the Gulf of Guinea and Atlantic Ocean in the south area. Ghana is a word meaning "Warrior King" in Soninke language. The first and foremost permanent state in the territory of present-day Ghana dates to the 11th century.
History of Ghana
Many kingdoms and empires emerged over the centuries in Ghana, of which the most powerful was the Kingdom of Ashanti which emerged in Ghana. In the beginning of the 15th century, numerous European powers fought for the area for trading rights, with the British people ultimately establishing control of the coast of Ghana by the mid or end of 19th century. Following over a centur, Ghana's borders were established the mid 1900s as the British Gold Coast. Ghana then became independent of the United Kingdom on the 6 March 1957.
Population of Ghana
Ghana's population is of approximately 28 million which spans a variety of ethnic, linguistic and religious groups altogether. Five percent of the population practices the traditional faiths, 67.2% stick to Christianity and 23.6% are Muslims among all. Its diverse geography and ecology range from the coastal savannahs to tropical rain forests as well.

Ghana is a constitutional democracy which is led by a president who is both head of state and head of the government as well. Ghana's growing economic figures and prosperity and democratic political system have made it a regional power in the West African region. It is one of the members of the Non-Aligned Movement, the African Union, the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) and the Commonwealth of Nations. Ghana is particularly located on the Gulf of Guinea, only a very few degrees towards the north of the Equator, hence, giving it a warm climate on the whole.

Ghana has a very large variety of plains, waterfalls, rivers, Lake Volta, which is the world's largest and the biggest artificial lake, Dodi Island and Bobowasi Island are on the south Atlantic Ocean coast of Ghana. The northernmost part of Ghana is Pulmakong.
