Ghana Tourist Information
One of the brightest luxuries in West Africa's crown, Ghana is a country which is blessed with idyllic beaches, breathtaking cities and remote nature reserves full of great wildlife. It is also a country which is steeped in history. In particular, the colonial trading forts that still stand along the Atlantic coast stand as a symbol of the suffering caused by the transatlantic slave trading. With so much to see and do in the country, knowing where to start can be difficult for the person to decide.
History of Ghana
Ghana's Atlantic coast is lined with old age forts and castles built by number of European powers during the 17th century. Of these, the Cape Coast Castle is one of the largest coasts. It was built in 1653 for the African Company and was originally used as a trading post for gold industries. It was expanded by the Dutch and the British and served as an important holding station.
