Mauritius Currency

The official Mauritius currency is  rupees. The first notes were issued by the government which were dated 1876. 1 rupee notes were included in 1919. In 1940, issues were made of 25 and 50 cents and 1 rupee as well. In 1954, Mauritius currency of 25 and 1000 rupees were introduced.

The Bank of Mauritius was made in September 1967 as the nation’s main bank which is issuing Mauritius currency. The bank issued its very first notes in 1967, comprising of four denominations:
