Public Holidays in Mauritius
There are some Mauritius public holidays granted to the people of Mauritius. First January marks the beginning of the new year and thus a single of Mauritius public holidays is allowed. Thaipoosam Cavadee is also one of the Mauritius public holidays, which is keenly celebrated. There are around 15 annual public holidays in the country of Mauritius. Seven of these Mauritius public holidays are fixed holidays of the year:

- 1st of February;
- 12th of March;
- 1st of May;
- 2nd of November;
- and 25th December too.
Muslim Festivals are Celebrated
The remaining public holidays are the religious festivals that happen across the country with dates that vary from year to year. These dates are according to the yearly festivals that take place. Muslim festivals are celebrated according to local sightings of various phases of the moon in the country of Mauritius. The dates which are given usually are therefore approximations. During the lunar month of Ramadan that comes before Eid al-Fitr, Muslims fast during the time of day and eat in the evening. Normal business patterns may be disturbed as a result of this. Many restaurants are closed during the day in respect of Ramzan, and there may be few restrictions on various habits such as smoking and drinking in other locations of the country too. Some disruption may continue into Eid itself. Eid al-Fitr and Eid al-Adha celebrations may last anything from two to ten days, depending on the region of Mauritius.

Mauritius National Holidays 2019
- First of May is celebrated as the labor day and is dedicated to showing solidarity to laborers.
- Some festivals are observed according to the sighting of the moon and thus the public holidays are given by that.
- February 1st is also one of the significant Mauritius public holidays as it marks the abolition of slavery in the year 1835.
- Slaves were initially brought to the island from the city of Madagascar and the East Indies by Dutch settlers to aid with agriculture and infrastructure of the island in the 17th and 18th century. However, it wasn't until the British took the island over that slavery was made illegal in the country.
Furthermore, Maha Shivaratree (Shivaratri) Festival happens throughout February and March. This is a yearly event that is fondly celebrated by devotees of Hinduism across the whole world. This celebration of Mauritius public holidays is given in respect to Lord Shiva and involves a procession to the sacred lake in Grand Bassin.
