There are some 120 to 187 languages in Philippines, and there are methods of classification. Almost all of them are Malayo-Polynesian languages which are the popular languages in Philippines. A number of Spanish-influenced varieties generally called Chavacano are also variably spoken in certain communities.

The 1987 constitution declares the Filipino as the national language and an official language along with English too which is spoken throughout. While Filipino is one of the most common languages in the Philippines used for the purpose of communication across the country's varied linguistic groups and is widely used in popular culture, the government operates mostly using the official language English. There are second-language speakers too; there are more speakers of Filipino language than English in the Philippines.
Regional Languages Philippines
The other regional languages in Philippines are given official auxiliary status in their respective places according to the constitution but do not show any language in particular. Some of these regional languages in Philippines are also used in education. The local scripts of the Philippines (such as the scripts Kulitan, Tagbanwa and others) are used very little in literature; instead, Filipino languages are nowadays written in the Latin script among the languages in Philippines because of the Spanish and American colonial experience as well. Baybayin is a language which is generally not understood, is one of the most well-known of Filipino scripts and is used mainly in art applications such as on the Philippine banknotes, where the word filipino is written using the popular writing system. Additionally, the Arabic script is commonly used in the Muslim areas in the Philippines.
