It was not until 2006 that the parties were allowed to participate in any elections or campaigns but after a 19-year ban this restriction was removed. Uganda government consists of different branches that make up the whole system. The branches include the Executive branch which consists of the cabinet of ministers and is head by the President and the Prime minister.

Then we have the legislative branch which is the main lawmaking body of Uganda. All of the bills passed first go through the legislative branch which is comprised of parliament. Then we have the judicial branch which makes sure that the people of Uganda get the justice and order is maintained in the society. The whole hierarchy of Uganda government consists of three branches i.e. Executive, Judicial and Legislative. Executive branch further contains President, Prime Minister, Cabinet and Vice President. Judicial consists of High court, Magistrates Court, Court of appeals and Supreme Court. The legislative branch consists of Parliament.

The President in the Uganda government since 1986 is Yoweri Museveni and the Prime minister is Ruhakana Rugunda which was selected by the Prime Minister on 18 September 2014.
