Government of Rwanda
A government forms the backbone of an entire country and ensures that the nation it is elected in is being governed smoothly. Rwanda gained its independence from Belgium on 1st July 1962, and for the first time, it came into recognition as an independent state. Rwanda government reflects Belgian and German civil law systems. Rwanda government is led by the President of Rwanda who is both the head of state and the head of government. Paul Kagame has been the president of Rwanda since taking office in 2000. Rwanda government exercises executive powers as well.

Rwanda government also comprises of legislative powers which are vested in both the government as well as the two chambers of parliament, the Senate and the Chamber of Deputies. On 5th May 1995, a new constitution was adopted by the transitional National Assembly. This included some points of the previous constitution of 1991 as well as provisions of 1993 provisions of the Arusha peace accord. Rwanda government consist of the Chamber of Deputies which is composed of 80 members. Among these 80 members are 53 deputies who are elected by direct universal suffrage in secret and 24 women elected by specific electoral colleges, 2 deputies elected by the National Youth Council concluding with 1 deputy elected by the National Council of Persons with Disabilities. The Senate is composed of 26 members who are further subdivided like the Chamber of Deputies.
