Being a land of diversity with people of different religions, regions and ethnicities, it is only normal that there are many languages in Rwanda. Kinyarwanda is one of the official languages in Rwanda and is the only ethnic languages spoken by three ethnic groups namely, the Hutu, Tutsi and Twa people. The language is widely spoken in the country with approximately 93% of the people speaking it.

It is spoken alongside English and French as official languages in Rwanda. Rwanda previously being a Belgian colony adopted French as one of its official languages. However, only about 0.1% of the population, mostly very educated speak French. English is the third of the official languages in Rwanda with about 0.2% of the population adhering to it. English is used as a code of instruction in Rwandan institutes. Swahili has also been recognized as among the official languages in Rwanda as of 2017.
