The market for import and export is open for staple products, capital goods, spare parts of vehicles and raw materials. Capital goods, raw materials for manufacturing, medicines for treatment, wheat and other strategic commodities do not need any import customs duties. Finished products which are competing with a local product or local consumer goods cannot be imported as per laws. These goods are imported through non-official channels only if the import is necessary. It is imperative to check with your national authorities present in the country, specific information, especially given the quick changes made in rules regarding import and export.

Iran custom rules are present on an average of about 30% of the CIF value of all the goods. Tariffs can vary from 0% for the most critical vital and strategic commodities to 100% for the few authorized consumer goods if required according to Iran custom rules. Iran custom rules of duty are quite high in the free zones also, in some cases amounting to 50% and more. Unislamic goods like alcohol cannot be imported. In the case of production under license, the local share must be significantly increased. Authorized importers who are paying customs duties must also pay other taxes too.
