To begin with Nigeria public holidays, we start with the first day of the year which is the New Year. New Year is spent while making New Year’s resolution by the people of the country and almost everyone around the world spends their day this way or little events are held on 1st of January.
Then after New Year we have the Nigeria public holiday for the remembrance of the late vice president Dr Ekwueme which is on the 1st of February.
On March 8th we have the women’s day on which different events are held for women only and most of the places strictly allow women inside only after giving them special discount on this day to encourage women all around the world.
After women’s day we have the Good Friday which is celebrated on the 30th of March right before the Easter Monday being on April 2nd. On this day big feasts are arranged and families gather to celebrate this day.
Then we have the Labor Day which is celebrated on 1st May just like everywhere else in the world. This day is declared a Nigeria public holiday in order to pay respects to labor across the world.
On May 27th Children’s Day is celebrated on which different events and plays are put together to help make children happy on their special day.
At the end of the holy month of Ramadan, the occasion of Eid-ul-fitr comes which is started by praying early morning and families get together to enjoy this event.
Soon after Eid-ul-fitr we have the occasion of the Eid-ul-Azha on which cows, goats and camels are sacrficied as a religious activity.
The dates of these Nigeria public holidays vary every year. As of 2019 Eid-ul-fitr was celebrated on June 15th and Eid-ul-Azha on August 21st.
October 1st is probably one of the important days of Nigeria,
it is the Independence day and the year is ended with the occasion of Christmas day on 25th December and Boxing day on 26th December.
